Dr. Gerhard Burger earned his PhD at the Leiden Academic Center for Drug Research (LACDR) at the Computational Biology group led by Dr. Joost Beltman, focusing on computational modeling of cellular dynamics in tumor cell migration. Following his PhD, he joined the Cancer Therapeutics and Drug Safety group of Prof. Dr. Bob van de Water as an assistant professor. In this role, he coordinated and taught the Introduction to Computational Thinking and the Functional Genomics courses, and conducted OMICS-based computational toxicology research. Since 2023, Gerhard is also a part-time, embedded data steward within the Cell Systems and Drug Safety division. He is also actively involved in the data management work package (WP7) of PARC (Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals) where he co-leads the Toxicology cluster. In early 2024, Gerhard became one of the world’s first GO FAIR Foundation-qualified Three-Point FAIRification Framework (3PFF) facilitators and is currently on track to become one of the first certified 3PFF trainers.
